The Forest Trust, formally The Tropical Forest Trust (TFT), is a non-profit international organization seeking to address the problem of deforestation by working with companies and communities and help them trade Forest Responsible Products. Created in 1999, The TFT works to set up traceability systems and assist in producers towards sustainable forest management. By finding out where wood supplies are coming form and linking the retailers and suppliers to acceptable forest sources, the TFT is very similar to how we created the Heritable Innovation Trust in Papua New Guinea. There are steps that the TFT follows including but not limited too, making sure the wood is coming from legally verified forest operations as well as making sure the forest management units can demonstrate their long-term economic viability.
