We have received more updates from our contact in Nepal, Krishna Gurung. It is as follows:
They are now safely back in Nepal and have started their work. Both locals and experts are very enthusiastic about our initiative here. The club house is being renovated with the help of foreign volunteers and locals. When it is done it will be transformed into a local meeting place and free general clinic. An experienced doctor has shown great interest in the project as well as the local school management committee. The committee and the teachers have agreed to transform the regular school into a Waldorf Inspired School where Hans Sir and Eneke will spend time talking on Waldorf inspiration. It may take time but it is truly a blessing for their location in Kathmandu. Right now the schools are giving educational support for 27% of the school children and the community will be enrolling a few more needy children in the upcoming school year. There are certain children who need their help more than others. For example, two of the children had their father commit suicide last year because of their impoverished situation and now their mother struggles to provide for them. They were the first children to be sponsored by Krishna's foundation.
They have been collecting waste papers, bottles and cans from many embassies, restaurants, and the streets to make bio-briquettes, a chick coop and ornaments. The local production workshop in which they are processing the soap nut seeds, making raw cotton bags and introducing silver work is continuing to be successful. They have created a garden, and Lisa from the Rudolf Steiner College is working on the biodynamic practices in the community. Over the next couple of months, progress will continue and they are excited about the work to come.
