Mike Venable

I was born on June 14, 1991 in Goldsboro, North Carolina. I am the son of Mike and Sallie Venable. My father has been an active member of the United States Navy for over twenty years. My mother is an elementary school teacher and has been teaching on and off for over twenty years. I am also the youngest of three children, Maile being the eldest, and Melia being the middle child. Due to my fathers’ occupation, I was fortunate enough to travel many times across the United States, camping and hiking throughout the National Park System. I have lived in five different states on both the East and West Coast. I have always been very involved in athletics; starting to participate in foot races when I was three years old and at age five I became the North Carolina State wrestling champion for my weight division. My love for athletics continued into high school, and college. I attended Floyd E. Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia from 2006 until 2009 in which I graduated with a 3.5 GPA. After graduation I decided to take a year off from school to work. I maintained two jobs working as lifeguard at the Dam Neck Naval Base and as an assistant track coach at Kellam High School. By 2010, I was ready to pursue academia and become an active participant in athletics. I applied and was accepted to Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia and was selected to participate on the university football team. I am currently a sophomore majoring in Political Science with a minor in National Security. Upon graduation I plan on joining the United States Navy with aspirations of a bright future.
